Lake Como Ghisallo and Sormano Ride

A classic Lake Como ride connecting Madonna del Ghisallo, Colma di Sormano and the infamous Muro di Sormano.

April to October

This is the signature Lake Como route idea. Madonna del Ghisallo gives the ride its cycling soul. Colma di Sormano gives it a longer climbing rhythm. The Muro di Sormano gives it pure stupidity, in the best possible way.

The route is not easy to design perfectly because Lake Como roads can be busy, narrow and logistically awkward. That is why the blueprint matters. Build around a logical base, choose whether you really want to include the Muro and do not underestimate how much climbing sits above the lake.

How to Build This Ride

  • Choose Bellagio, Como or Nesso as your base.
  • Include Madonna del Ghisallo as the emotional anchor.
  • Add Colma di Sormano for a longer climb.
  • Decide whether the Muro di Sormano fits your legs and gearing.
  • Return by the safest lake or inland road option.

Villages & Coffee Stops

  • Bellagio is the most romantic base and gives direct access to Ghisallo. Como is more practical for travel and accommodation. Nesso is useful if Colma di Sormano is the main focus. For coffee, Bellagio and the lake towns are obvious, but plan stops around the climbs rather than expecting a café at exactly the right moment.

Make it shorter

Ride Madonna del Ghisallo only, or combine Ghisallo with a shorter Lake Como loop.

Make it harder

Add the Muro di Sormano after Ghisallo. Only do this with proper gearing and honest legs.

Local Notes

Lake Como roads are beautiful but not always relaxed. Traffic, tunnels and narrow sections need attention. The best route is not always the shortest one in the planner.

This is a flexible ride idea, not a turn-by-turn route. Use the climbs, villages and notes above to build your own GPX in Komoot, Strava, Ride with GPS or another planner before you ride.
