A focused Lake Como ride to Madonna del Ghisallo, one of the most meaningful places in Italian cycling.

Ride Time
2.5 to 5 hours
Difficulty

Start
Bellagio, Como or nearby lake towns
Best Season
April to October

Madonna del Ghisallo is more than a climb. It is a cycling pilgrimage. The road from Bellagio is short but steep, and the chapel at the top gives the ride a finish that feels different from a normal summit.

This route idea is perfect if you want a meaningful Lake Como ride without forcing a massive day. Start in Bellagio for the pure version, or build a longer approach from Como or another lake town if you want more distance.

How to Build This Ride

  • Start in Bellagio for the most direct version.
  • Climb Madonna del Ghisallo via Civenna.
  • Spend time at the top rather than treating it as just a segment.
  • Add a lake loop if you want extra kilometres.
  • Return by a safe and realistic road choice.

Climbs Included

Villages & Coffee Stops

  • Bellagio is the obvious start and finish. Civenna sits naturally on the climb. Como works better if you want a longer day with more travel options.

Make it shorter

Start in Bellagio and ride the climb as the main objective.

Make it harder

Add Colma di Sormano or the Muro di Sormano if you want a much more demanding ride.

Local Notes

Do not underestimate the climb because it is short. It is steep enough to hurt. Also pay attention to lake traffic, especially in high season.

This is a flexible ride idea, not a turn-by-turn route. Use the climbs, villages and notes above to build your own GPX in Komoot, Strava, Ride with GPS or another planner before you ride.
