Pas de Peyrol from the Mandailles valley is a compact Massif Central climb with real bite. At 5.4 kilometres and 8.1 percent average, it is steep enough to require proper gearing and careful pacing.
This is not an Alpine giant. Its appeal is different: volcanic landscapes, narrow roads and gradients that arrive quickly. The climb adds a very useful flavour to the Tour de France 2026 cluster because it shows how varied French climbing can be.
How to Ride It
- Start controlled. The climb is short, but not gentle.
- Keep your cadence alive on the steeper ramps.
- Ride the final section with patience rather than panic.
Where to Stay
Aurillac or smaller towns around the Cantal are logical bases. Choose depending on whether you want convenience or a quieter mountain feel.
