Jaizkibel can be ridden from the Lezo or Hondarribia side, with the briefing giving a range of eight to nine kilometres, 445 to 530 metres of elevation gain and an average gradient of five to six percent. That makes it a proper climb, but not a wall. Its appeal is rhythm, setting and Basque cycling atmosphere.
The road captures a lot of what makes the Basque Country such a strong cycling destination. It is green, rolling, never completely predictable and close enough to the coast to feel different from an inland mountain pass. It is a climb you can ride hard, but also one you can enjoy without needing to make it a test.
