This route idea is for riders who want the Ardennes to feel properly hard. Stockeu gives the ride its steepest bite. Wanne adds another variable climb. Rosier brings a longer, steadier effort that changes the rhythm of the day.
The result is a route that feels different from an Alpine climb day. There is no one huge ascent. Instead, the road keeps interrupting you. A ramp here, a descent there, another rise before you have fully recovered. That is the character of the Ardennes.
How to Build This Ride
- Start in Stavelot, Spa or Trois Ponts.
- Use Stockeu as the first major test.
- Add Côte de Wanne to keep the route punchy.
- Use Col du Rosier as the longer climbing section.
- Return through valley roads with enough energy left for the final rollers.
Climbs Included
Villages & Coffee Stops
- Stavelot is a strong base for this route. Spa gives more accommodation and food options. Trois Ponts can work well if you want to sit deeper in the climbing area.
Make it shorter
Pick Stockeu and Rosier, then return without forcing every nearby climb into the same ride.
Make it harder
Add Côte de Haute Levée or La Redoute, but only if you want a genuinely demanding day.
Local Notes
This is the kind of route where fuelling matters more than expected. Short climbs can make riders forget to eat. Then the final hour becomes ugly for no noble reason.
