Sardinia works beautifully as a cycling destination because the riding does not need to revolve around one iconic climb. The best first route is often a coastal loop: rolling roads, sea views, small towns and enough elevation to make the day feel like proper cycling.

This route idea should stay flexible because your base matters. Alghero and Bosa make sense for a west coast version. Cagliari works better for southern routes. The goal is not to chase a single summit. It is to build a ride that uses the coast without spending too much time on busy roads.

How to Build This Ride

  • Choose a coastal base with good road access.
  • Build along scenic coastal roads where traffic is manageable.
  • Add inland loops if you want more climbing.
  • Use towns as food and water anchors.
  • Return before heat or wind makes the ride less enjoyable.

Climbs Included

  • Specific linked climb pages can be added later once the Sardinia climb cluster is developed.

Villages & Coffee Stops

  • Alghero, Bosa and Cagliari are useful bases depending on the side of the island. Smaller coastal towns can make excellent stops, but opening times vary outside the main season.

Make it shorter

Build a simple out and back from your coastal base.

Make it harder

Add an inland climb or hill loop before returning to the coast.

Local Notes

Wind and heat matter. Sardinia can feel relaxed, but exposed coastal roads can become tiring quickly. Plan water stops carefully.

This is a flexible ride idea, not a turn-by-turn route. Use the climbs, villages and notes above to build your own GPX in Komoot, Strava, Ride with GPS or another planner before you ride.
