Sardinia is ideal for a short cycling escape because the contrast is easy to build. One day can follow the coast, with sea views and rolling roads. The second day can head inland, where the island becomes quieter, hillier and more rugged.
This weekend format is more useful than one fixed route. It lets riders choose a base and then build two different days around it. The key is balance. Do not make both rides too hard. Let one day carry the views and the other carry the climbing.
How to Build This Ride
- Choose one base for the weekend.
- Ride a coastal loop on day one.
- Keep day one scenic and controlled.
- Ride inland hills on day two.
- Finish with enough time for food, travel and recovery.
Climbs Included
- Specific linked climb pages can be added later once the Sardinia climb cluster is developed.
Villages & Coffee Stops
- Alghero is a strong base for a west coast weekend. Cagliari works well for southern Sardinia. Smaller towns can be excellent, but the route should be built around confirmed services.
Make it shorter
Turn it into one coastal ride and one short recovery spin.
Make it harder
Add a longer inland climbing loop on day two.
Local Notes
Sardinia can feel easy because the trip atmosphere is relaxed. The riding still needs planning. Heat, wind and distance between services can make a simple looking loop harder than expected.
This is a flexible ride idea, not a turn-by-turn route. Use the climbs, villages and notes above to build your own GPX in Komoot, Strava, Ride with GPS or another planner before you ride.
