Monte Baldo gives Lake Garda a proper mountain option. From the Malcesine side, there are several ways to build a serious climbing day, with routes that can rise high above the lake and feel much bigger than a normal lakeside ride.
This is exactly the type of route where a flexible guide is more useful than one fixed line. Your start point matters. Your chosen side matters. Your tolerance for long climbing matters. Use Monte Baldo as the main objective, then shape the rest of the ride around weather, traffic and your base.
How to Build This Ride
- Start in Malcesine or another town on the eastern side of Lake Garda.
- Build towards the Monte Baldo climb.
- Choose a version that matches your climbing level.
- Use the upper roads as the main reward, not just the summit.
- Return carefully to the lake.
Climbs Included
- Monte Baldo
Villages & Coffee Stops
- Malcesine is the obvious base because it puts you close to the climb and gives the ride a strong Lake Garda feeling. Smaller towns around the lake can work too, but they may add busy lakeside kilometres.
Make it shorter
Start close to the climb and avoid adding a long lakeside approach.
Make it harder
Extend higher and add extra inland roads, but keep a close eye on the total elevation gain.
Local Notes
Lake Garda can be busy, especially in summer. The climb may feel peaceful, but getting to and from the lake roads can be the real planning challenge.
This is a flexible ride idea, not a turn-by-turn route. Use the climbs, villages and notes above to build your own GPX in Komoot, Strava, Ride with GPS or another planner before you ride.
