La Redoute and Roche aux Faucons are a natural pair for a Liège inspired ride. Both are short, steep and hard enough to matter, especially when they come after rolling Ardennes roads. This is not a high mountain route. It is a punchy, draining, constantly changing day.

The best version starts near Liège or Aywaille and uses the climbs as the main anchors. Between them, the roads should stay rolling and efficient rather than becoming a messy collection of random ramps. The beauty of the Ardennes is density. The danger is overloading the route.

How to Build This Ride

  • Start in Liège or Aywaille.
  • Build towards Côte de la Redoute as the first major climb.
  • Use rolling Ardennes roads to connect towards Roche aux Faucons.
  • Keep the route compact enough to stay enjoyable.
  • Return by the safest valley roads.

Villages & Coffee Stops

  • Aywaille is the practical anchor for La Redoute. Liège works as the larger base. Smaller Ardennes towns are useful for stops, but do not assume every village has reliable opening hours.

Make it shorter

Start near Aywaille and focus only on La Redoute with a local loop.

Make it harder

Add Côte de Stockeu or Col du Rosier if you want a much heavier classics style day.

Local Notes

The Ardennes are harder than they look. The climbs are short, but the roads between them are rarely truly flat. Plan the day by effort, not only by distance.

This is a flexible ride idea, not a turn-by-turn route. Use the climbs, villages and notes above to build your own GPX in Komoot, Strava, Ride with GPS or another planner before you ride.
