Girona Rocacorba Test Ride
A serious Girona climbing day built around Rocacorba, the benchmark effort that shows why this region is more than café rides and smooth roads.

Rocacorba is the climb riders come back to when they want to know where their legs really are. It is not as gentle as Els Àngels and not as casual as a coffee spin. From the Banyoles side, the climb becomes steep enough to demand proper pacing, especially when the ramps kick above ten percent.
The logical version starts in Girona, rolls north towards Banyoles, climbs Rocacorba, then returns through quieter roads. If you want a shorter day, start in Banyoles instead. If you want the full Girona experience, ride from the city and make the climb the centrepiece.
How to Build This Ride
- Start in Girona and head towards Banyoles.
- Use quieter roads where possible instead of forcing the fastest main road option.
- Climb Rocacorba from the Banyoles side.
- Descend carefully and refill before heading back.
- Return to Girona with enough energy left for the final kilometres.

Villages & Coffee Stops
- Banyoles is the key stop. It works as a pre climb reset or a post climb recovery point. Girona is still the best place to finish, especially if you want the ride to feel like part of a proper cycling trip.
Make it shorter
Start and finish in Banyoles. That keeps the focus on Rocacorba without turning the day into a longer transfer ride.
Make it harder
Add Els Àngels before or after Rocacorba, but only if you actually want a hard day. This combination is not a casual add on.
Local Notes
Rocacorba is a proper test. The mistake is treating the ride to Banyoles as the warm up and then arriving at the climb already half cooked. Keep the first part controlled and let the climb be the main event.
This is a flexible ride idea, not a turn-by-turn route. Use the climbs, villages and notes above to build your own GPX in Komoot, Strava, Ride with GPS or another planner before you ride.
