Alto de Hazallanas is not long in the way Pico Veleta is long. It is hard in a different way. From Güéjar Sierra, the climb is steep, direct and capable of making a short ride feel very serious.
This is a good route idea for riders who want a hard mountain effort without committing to the full altitude mission of Pico Veleta. Start in Granada for a fuller day, or start closer in Güéjar Sierra if you want the climb to be the clear focus.
How to Build This Ride
- Start in Granada or Güéjar Sierra.
- Warm up before the steep gradients begin.
- Climb Alto de Hazallanas with easy gearing.
- Return carefully through the valley roads.
- Finish with food and recovery rather than adding unnecessary distance.
Climbs Included
Villages & Coffee Stops
- Granada is the best overall base. Güéjar Sierra is the practical anchor for the climb. Use it as a reset point before or after the hardest section.
Make it shorter
Start in Güéjar Sierra and focus on the climb.
Make it harder
Add extra Sierra Nevada roads, but be careful. Hazallanas already contains very steep ramps.
Local Notes
This is a gearing check. If your setup is too heavy, the climb will tell you quickly. Avoid the hottest part of the day and bring enough water.
This is a flexible ride idea, not a turn-by-turn route. Use the climbs, villages and notes above to build your own GPX in Komoot, Strava, Ride with GPS or another planner before you ride.
