Cap de Formentor is not one single climb in the classic sense. It is a full out and back experience, built from rolling gradients, short climbs, descents and exposed coastal road. That is exactly why it deserves its own page. It is one of Mallorca’s defining rides, not because one ramp breaks you, but because the whole route has a rhythm and atmosphere that are hard to beat.

From Port de Pollença, the road quickly leaves the resort feeling behind and moves into a sharper, wilder landscape. The lighthouse gives the ride a natural destination, but the best part is the road itself. It rewards early starts, patient pacing and a willingness to stop pretending you are not going to take photos.

How to Ride It

  • Treat it as a route rather than a single effort. The repeated climbs and descents add up quickly.
  • Keep something back for the return. The ride is not over when you reach the lighthouse.
  • Stay alert on the descents. Traffic, corners and riders stopping for views can all appear at awkward moments.

Where to Stay

Port de Pollença is the perfect base. You can roll straight onto the route, while still having cafés, bike shops and plenty of cyclist friendly accommodation nearby.

Practical Tips

  • Palma de Mallorca Airport is the main arrival point for the island.
  • Start early. Formentor is popular with cyclists, cars and sightseers.
  • Bring water and snacks before leaving Port de Pollença. The route feels accessible, but it still needs proper preparation.
