This route is about the feeling of Strade Bianche rather than copying the professional race. Start in Siena, head out onto the white roads, then build the ride so the return towards the city feels like a proper finish.

The final streets into Siena are part of the magic. Via Santa Caterina is short, steep and uneven, but it gives the ride a sense of theatre that most gravel loops do not have. It is a reminder that route design is not only about distance and elevation. The ending matters.

How to Build This Ride

  • Start in Siena.
  • Ride out towards nearby white road sectors.
  • Add Monte Sante Marie or smaller gravel sectors depending on distance.
  • Return towards Siena with enough energy left for the city finish.
  • Use Via Santa Caterina as the final sting if access and conditions allow.

  • Siena is the natural base and finish. Asciano can be a useful turning point or deeper gravel anchor. For coffee, plan around towns rather than assuming every beautiful hilltop village has an open bar.

Make it shorter

Keep the gravel sectors close to Siena and focus on the city finish.

Make it harder

Extend towards Asciano and include Monte Sante Marie or other Strade Bianche sectors.

Local Notes

The closer you get to Siena, the more urban and technical the ride can feel. Watch for traffic, pedestrians and rough surfaces. Do not turn the final climb into a race if the streets are busy.
