Puig Major gives Mallorca a different kind of climb from Sa Calobra. It is less theatrical, but more sustained. From Sóller, the climb is long enough to feel like a proper mountain effort and steady enough for riders who like rhythm.
The route can be simple or ambitious. A compact version starts in Sóller, climbs Puig Major and returns with a controlled loop. A bigger version links the climb into a full Tramuntana day, using mountain roads towards the lakes, Sa Calobra or Coll de sa Batalla depending on your legs.
How to Build This Ride
- Start in Sóller.
- Climb Puig Major towards the Túnel de Monnaber.
- Decide whether to return directly or continue into a larger mountain loop.
- Add lakes, Sa Calobra or Coll de sa Batalla only if you want a hard day.
- Finish back in Sóller.
Climbs Included
Villages & Coffee Stops
- Sóller is the natural start and finish. It gives the ride a proper mountain town feeling and keeps the logistics simple. For longer versions, plan stops before you need them, not after.
Make it shorter
Ride Puig Major as the main effort and return without adding Sa Calobra or extra Tramuntana loops.
Make it harder
Add Sa Calobra after Puig Major. This is a serious option and should not be treated as a casual extension.
Local Notes
Puig Major is steady, but the total workload can become large if you keep adding famous roads. The climb itself is manageable. The full Tramuntana day is where riders get caught out.
This is a flexible ride idea, not a turn-by-turn route. Use the climbs, villages and notes above to build your own GPX in Komoot, Strava, Ride with GPS or another planner before you ride.
