The Muur van Geraardsbergen is the kind of climb that turns a ride into a memory. It is short, steep, cobbled and wrapped in classics history. The chapel at the top gives the climb a visual finish that few roads can match.
This route idea can be built in two ways. Start in Geraardsbergen for a compact ride focused on the Muur itself, or start in Oudenaarde and make it part of a longer Flanders day. The first version is cleaner. The second version feels more like a full classics route.
How to Build This Ride
- Start in Geraardsbergen for the simplest version.
- Climb the Muur and take time at the top.
- Add local roads around the town if you want more distance.
- For a longer day, connect from Oudenaarde through rolling Flemish roads.
- Return by a route that avoids unnecessary main road riding.
Climbs Included

Villages & Coffee Stops
- Geraardsbergen is the heart of this ride. It works as start, finish and post ride stop. If you start in Oudenaarde, plan the middle of the ride carefully so the Muur does not become just a random out and back.
Make it shorter
Start in Geraardsbergen and build a compact loop around the Muur.
Make it harder
Link the Muur with other Flemish climbs. Bosberg is often mentioned with the Muur, but check your final route and profile carefully before publishing hard numbers.
Local Notes
The Muur is more than a segment. It has town roads, cobbles, steep gradients and people walking around the top. Ride it with control, especially if the area is busy.
This is a flexible ride idea, not a turn-by-turn route. Use the climbs, villages and notes above to build your own GPX in Komoot, Strava, Ride with GPS or another planner before you ride.
