Mangart Saddle is the kind of road that makes a whole trip feel justified. High mountain scenery, tight roads, tunnels and a real sense of exposure. It is not a casual route, and it should not be treated like one.

The smartest version starts from Bovec or closer to Log pod Mangartom, depending on how much total distance you want. Make Mangart the main objective. The road is dramatic enough without forcing extra climbs around it.

How to Build This Ride

  • Start in Bovec or Log pod Mangartom.
  • Build towards the Mangart road with a steady warm up.
  • Climb Mangart Saddle as the main effort.
  • Take care through tunnels, narrow sections and exposed roads.
  • Descend with full concentration and warm clothing.

Climbs Included

Villages & Coffee Stops

  • Bovec is the best base for a cycling trip. Log pod Mangartom is the practical climb anchor. Services become more limited once you commit to the mountain road, so plan before the climb.

Make it shorter

Start close to Log pod Mangartom and focus on Mangart only.

Make it harder

Add more Julian Alps riding around Bovec, but do not underestimate the main climb.

Local Notes

This route needs local access verification before publication as a confident recommendation. Weather, road conditions and seasonal closures matter. Treat Mangart as a high mountain objective, not a normal road loop.

This is a flexible ride idea, not a turn-by-turn route. Use the climbs, villages and notes above to build your own GPX in Komoot, Strava, Ride with GPS or another planner before you ride.
