Sa Calobra is the Mallorca climb most riders want to tick off first. The strange thing is that you normally descend it before you climb it. That makes the route feel like a commitment. Once you are at the bottom, the ride out is not optional.
The best version depends on where you stay. From Port de Pollença or Alcúdia, you usually build the ride through the Tramuntana roads and Coll de sa Batalla before dropping down to Sa Calobra. From Sóller, the day can feel more mountainous from the beginning. Either way, the route should be treated as a proper climbing day, not a sightseeing spin.
How to Build This Ride
- Start from your base and ride towards the Tramuntana mountains.
- Use Coll de sa Batalla or the surrounding mountain roads as the approach.
- Descend carefully to Sa Calobra.
- Climb Sa Calobra back out from the coast.
- Return by the safest and most logical mountain road for your base.

Villages & Coffee Stops
- Coll de sa Batalla is the classic stop area before or after the Sa Calobra section. Port de Pollença, Alcúdia and Sóller all work as bases, but they create very different days.
Make it shorter
Start closer to the mountains, or plan a route that focuses mainly on the Sa Calobra descent and climb rather than adding a long coastal transfer.
Make it harder
Combine Sa Calobra with Puig Major or extend through Sóller. This becomes a big Tramuntana day quickly.
Local Notes
Start early. Sa Calobra gets busy with riders, cars and buses. The descent is beautiful, but do not ride it like a closed road. The climb is steady on paper, but heat and traffic can make it feel much harder.
This is a flexible ride idea, not a turn-by-turn route. Use the climbs, villages and notes above to build your own GPX in Komoot, Strava, Ride with GPS or another planner before you ride.
