Santa Pellaia is one of those Girona climbs that does not need to shout. It is not the biggest name in the region, but it is exactly the kind of road that makes Girona so good for repeat riding. The gradient is friendly, the rhythm is smooth and the route can be shaped around villages rather than pure suffering.

This ride works well as a lighter day between harder climbs. Start in Girona, head south towards Cassà de la Selva, climb Santa Pellaia and then use the rolling roads back through the countryside. It is a good route for talking pace, café stops and getting a feel for the region beyond the obvious climbs.

How to Build This Ride

  • Start in Girona and ride south towards Cassà de la Selva.
  • Climb Santa Pellaia from the Cassà side.
  • Continue through quiet inland roads.
  • Add a village loop if you want more distance.
  • Return to Girona for coffee.

Climbs Included

Villages & Coffee Stops

  • Cassà de la Selva is the practical anchor before the climb. Girona remains the best coffee finish. For a more scenic ride, add smaller villages on the return rather than making the route too direct.

Make it shorter

Ride out to Santa Pellaia, climb it and return to Girona by the most direct quiet road option.

Make it harder

Add Els Àngels or extend the loop towards the coast. That changes the ride from relaxed coffee loop to a fuller day.

Local Notes

This is a good second or third ride in Girona. It gives you more local texture than another famous climb and helps balance a trip that might otherwise become too focused on test pieces.

This is a flexible ride idea, not a turn-by-turn route. Use the climbs, villages and notes above to build your own GPX in Komoot, Strava, Ride with GPS or another planner before you ride.
