This is the ride we would start with in Girona. Els Àngels is close to the city, steady enough to enjoy and long enough to make the day feel like proper cycling. It gives you the Girona feeling quickly: a clean climb out of town, wooded roads, small villages and that easy rhythm between effort and coffee.

The route works best as a flexible loop. Start in Girona, climb Els Àngels from the city side, descend towards Madremanya and then use the smaller roads back through the villages. You can keep it compact if it is your first day, or stretch it into a longer ride by adding extra loops towards Monells or La Bisbal.

How to Build This Ride

  • Start in Girona and roll out towards Els Àngels.
  • Climb Els Àngels from the Girona side.
  • Descend towards Madremanya.
  • Add village roads through Monells, Cruïlles or La Bisbal if you want more distance.
  • Return to Girona for coffee and food.

Climbs Included

Villages & Coffee Stops

  • Girona is the obvious coffee base. La Fabrica and Espresso Mafia are the kind of stops riders talk about, but the real value is that you finish back in a city that understands cyclists.
  • Madremanya and Monells are good village anchors if you want the ride to feel less like a training loop and more like a cycling trip.

Make it shorter

Climb Els Àngels, descend the other side and return directly to Girona without adding the extra village loop.

Make it harder

Add Santa Pellaia after the Els Àngels loop, or extend north towards Banyoles if you want a bigger Girona day.

Local Notes

Els Àngels is popular because it is easy to reach and easy to fit into almost any ride. The city exit needs attention, but once you are climbing, the ride settles quickly. Do not overcomplicate this one. Its strength is simplicity.

This is a flexible ride idea, not a turn-by-turn route. Use the climbs, villages and notes above to build your own GPX in Komoot, Strava, Ride with GPS or another planner before you ride.
