Collada de Toses is one of the climbs that makes Catalonia feel properly mountainous. It is not as internationally famous as the great French cols, but it has enough distance and gradient to shape a serious day.

This route idea works best if you start closer to the Catalan Pyrenees rather than forcing it from Barcelona or Girona. Ripoll, Puigcerdà and nearby towns make more sense as bases. Use Collada de Toses as the main climb, then build a loop around roads that stay coherent rather than overextended.

How to Build This Ride

  • Start in Ripoll, Puigcerdà or a nearby town.
  • Build towards Collada de Toses from the southern valley side.
  • Use the climb as the main structure of the day.
  • Add surrounding Pyrenean roads only if the route still flows naturally.
  • Return to your base by a safe valley or mountain road.

Climbs Included

Villages & Coffee Stops

  • Ripoll and Puigcerdà are useful anchors, depending on which side of the route you choose. Smaller mountain towns can be beautiful stops, but check seasonality and opening times.

Make it shorter

Start close to the climb and keep the ride focused on Collada de Toses.

Make it harder

Extend towards Les Angles or other Pyrenean roads, but this changes the ride into a bigger mountain day.

Local Notes

This is not a Barcelona day ride unless you are happy with a lot of transfer. Treat it as a Catalan Pyrenees ride and the route will make much more sense.

This is a flexible ride idea, not a turn-by-turn route. Use the climbs, villages and notes above to build your own GPX in Komoot, Strava, Ride with GPS or another planner before you ride.
