Begues and Santa Creu d’Olorda make sense together because they sit in the same broader Barcelona hills story. Neither is a giant climb, but both are long enough to give the ride structure. Add them together and you get a proper day rather than a city spin.
This route idea is especially useful for riders staying in Barcelona who want to escape the city without heading all the way to the high mountains. The trick is choosing the right connectors. The climbs are good. The route between them needs care.
How to Build This Ride
- Start in Barcelona or closer to the Llobregat valley.
- Climb Ermita de Santa Creu d’Olorda from the valley side.
- Link towards Begues using quieter roads where possible.
- Climb Côte de Begues from the southwest side.
- Return to your base by the safest route.
Climbs Included
Villages & Coffee Stops
- Barcelona is the best base for travel. Towns around the Llobregat valley can work well if you want to avoid a messy city exit. Begues itself can be a useful route anchor.
Make it shorter
Start outside central Barcelona and ride only one of the two climbs.
Make it harder
Add Montjuïc at the beginning or end for a full Tour 2026 Barcelona themed ride.
Local Notes
The danger here is not the climbs. It is bad routing. Avoid turning the ride into a tour of industrial roads just because the planner found a direct line. Use cycling friendly connectors.
This is a flexible ride idea, not a turn-by-turn route. Use the climbs, villages and notes above to build your own GPX in Komoot, Strava, Ride with GPS or another planner before you ride.
