Barcelona is not a high mountain cycling base, but the Tour de France 2026 route shows exactly why it works. The climbs are short, sharp and close enough to the city to build a proper ride without leaving the urban trip behind.

This route idea connects the city sting of Montjuïc with the bigger hills towards Santa Creu d’Olorda or Begues. It is perfect for riders who want a Tour themed Barcelona ride rather than a long transfer into the Pyrenees.

How to Build This Ride

  • Start in Barcelona.
  • Use Côte du Château de Montjuïc as the city climb.
  • Ride towards the Llobregat valley or the hills outside the city.
  • Add Ermita de Santa Creu d’Olorda or Côte de Begues depending on distance.
  • Return to Barcelona by the safest urban edge route.

Villages & Coffee Stops

  • Barcelona gives the strongest start and finish. The Llobregat valley side works as a useful transition out of the city. For coffee, keep one stop in the city and one possible stop outside it if your route gets longer.
