Pila is a clean and logical cycling climb. Start in Aosta, climb to the resort, descend back down. The road gains 1,224 metres across 18 kilometres, which makes it a proper Alpine objective without needing a complicated route.

The average gradient of 6.8 percent puts it in that dangerous middle ground: not brutally steep on paper, but long enough to become very real. For travelling cyclists, it is one of the easiest Giro 2026 climbs to understand and build into a trip.

How to ride it

Start in Aosta and use the first kilometres to find rhythm.

Keep the effort smooth, because the climb is long.

Use Pila as the main objective rather than stacking too much around it.

Where to stay

Aosta is the obvious base. It gives you accommodation, food, travel access and a clean start for the climb.

Practical tips

The climb is long enough to need proper pacing.

The descent can be cool, especially outside summer.

Resort roads can have seasonal traffic, so check timing before riding.
