Piani di Pezzè is not long, but it is savage enough to matter. Five kilometres at 9.8 percent is hard on any day. After Passo Duran and Passo Giau, it becomes the kind of final climb that makes a queen stage feel complete.

For riders, this climb works well as a sharp Dolomites test from Alleghe. It can be ridden as a focused short climb, or added at the end of a bigger route if you want the full Giro inspired sting.

How to ride it

Start from Alleghe and accept that the climb gets serious quickly.

Use very light gearing, because the average gradient is close to ten percent.

Save this climb for the end only if you really want a hard finish.

Where to stay

Alleghe is the natural base. It also works well for a Dolomites trip that includes Giau, Duran and surrounding roads.

Practical tips

Do not underestimate it because it is only five kilometres.

The climb is steep enough to punish heavy gearing immediately.

If you ride it after other passes, treat it as a final exam.
